The Benefits Sedation Dentistry Offers to Individuals with Dental Anxiety

    Last updated 4 months ago

Hundreds of people suffer from mild to severe dental anxiety, but they no longer have to avoid the dentist thanks to sedation dentistry. Find out how sedation dentistry facilitates optimal dental care

    Increased Relaxation
If you are a member of the 30% of the population who puts off going to the dentist because of fear or anxiety, talk to your dentist about sedation dentistry.  Sedation dentistry gives patients the opportunity to receive preventative dental treatment, thereby avoiding major oral health problems later. Sedation dentistry, also known as relaxation dentistry, calms your nerves and blurs the memory of treatment, so that you can have a positive, worry-free experience.

    Less Time at the Dentist
With sedation dentistry, dentists can work much faster; a treatment that would take several visits to complete can now be done in just one or two. Major cosmetic procedures become less intrusive and the patient is left without an unwanted memory of the procedure.

    Painless Treatment Options
If you’re not undergoing a major dental procedure, you probably don’t need IV sedation. This means you can undergo a nitrous oxide treatment: a painless method of sedation dentistry that completely relaxes the patient after inhalation of the gaseous sedative. You’ll feel a bit drowsy and you won’t mind being at the dentist. Plus, your dentist can quickly reverse the effects of the nitrous oxide so you can safely drive home or back to work directly following the procedure.

    Access to More Dental Services
Some people avoid getting major cosmetic upgrades because of their dental fears, but sedation dentistry makes it easy to undergo these procedures. Most cosmetic and preventative dentists offer four types of sedation dentistry, including oral sedatives, intravenous sedation, nitrous oxide sedation, and general anesthesia. Talk to your dentist about these methods and get the smile you desire.

At Creek Road Dental Care, we make it our goal to maximize comfort and ease for our patients. Learn about our services and how we use sedation dentistry by visiting our website or by calling (801) 566-5575.

What are Tooth Sealants and Why Should Your Child Have Them?

    Last updated 5 months ago

Children who are prone to cavities are at a significant disadvantage when it comes to dental health. Cavities and cavity repair permanently alter the tooth, causing it to become weaker. Visit your dentist and read the following overview to learn about how dental sealants can help.

    What is a Tooth Sealant?
Dental, or tooth, sealant is a thin plastic material that is applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth to prevent the development of cavities. Tooth decay generally develops within the grooves of the molars and other back teeth, especially among children and teens who may not thoroughly brush their teeth. The sealant material blocks food particles and acids from collecting within the grooves of the chewing surfaces, preventing tooth decay.

When applying the sealant, your child’s dentist will thoroughly clean the teeth and spread a special gel on the tops of the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. The dentist then squirts water on each tooth to rinse the mouth completely. Next, the sealant material is applied and hardened with a warm light. After about a minute, this non-invasive treatment is complete.

What are the Benefits to Tooth Sealants?
Tooth sealants are most commonly recommended for children and teens who have permanent molars and primary chewing teeth. Without the sealant material, you child is at a greater risk for permanent tooth decay and cavity formation. Treatment for cavities is much more expensive and invasive than sealant application. Plus, cavity repair can permanently damage and weaken the tooth. Sealants can protect your child’s teeth for up to 10 years, so pediatric dentists recommend proactive sealant treatment. Within 10 years, your child will learn how to properly brush his or her teeth. The sealant material is invisible and durable, provided your child doesn’t regularly chew hard candies and foods.

If you would like your child to undergo a sealant treatment, call Creek Road Dental Care at (801) 566-5575. We specialize in maximizing comfort and providing excellent cosmetic and preventative dental care for the whole family.
